As we come to the close of 2022, we look with amazement, praising the Lord for providing for so many exciting accomplishments. So much more is in store for 2023! First, a glance at some major milestones of 2022…
Recap of Phoenix TV Station Purchase
This project has been our biggest since Good News TV (GNTV) started in 2009… God worked a mighty miracle with your prayers and generous support. After a full year of fundraising, we purchased our own Phoenix TV station DEBT-FREE on May 3, 2022. This is something we never would have imagined when we started leasing a channel almost 14 years ago.
As a result, we were able to immediately make many major improvements. For instance, we started broadcasting our English channel in high definition (HD) for the first time in Phoenix. Furthermore, we were able to start our children’s channel for the first time in Phoenix. Both of these changes were not possible while leasing channels since this would have more than doubled our costs. These and other improvements have resulted in a lot of great feedback from our viewers, none of which would have been possible without you!
We also moved to a prime location on the television dial, from channel 38 to channel 14. Moving to channel 14 has positioned us right between two major national news networks, ABC(12) and NBC(15), resulting in many new viewers finding us for the first time as they flip between their favorite news and sports stations. God is amazing!
Broadcast Equipment Conversion & Spanish Channel to HD in Phoenix
We spent considerable time and expense converting all of our broadcast equipment at the studio from analog to digital, thereby stabilizing our environment and dramatically improving the quality of our video and sound on all channels. This conversion set the stage to start rolling out the improved channels on all of our stations throughout Arizona. In order to deliver this we still have to purchase one additional piece of equipment for each of the 9 TV stations.
As a first step we purchased this equipment for the Phoenix TV station, and we were absolutely amazed by the results! The image quality of each one of our channels was not only much sharper than before, it’s much sharper than we thought possible! To top it all off, we introduced our GNTV Latino channel as high definition (HD) in Phoenix for the very first time anywhere. Right after we made the change, we received a lot of good feedback from Phoenix-area viewers who also noticed these improvements right away.
We know that a sharp image and clear sound attracts and retains more viewers, so we want to continue this conversion and purchase this equipment for each of our other 8 TV stations throughout Arizona. Your continued support will help make this a reality!
New GNTV Music Channel Introduced
We have received excellent feedback over the years from viewers that like the various musical programs we periodically air on our English and Spanish channels, particularly those unique musical productions that highlight the beauty of God’s creation, like Fountainview Academy.
Faced with an opportunity to add a channel on our new Phoenix station, God impressed us to develop one dedicated to sacred music. This quickly become a favorite for many of our viewers throughout the Phoenix.
Phoenix viewers have told us they love this channel which they can turn to at any time to listen to the beautiful peaceful music set to stunning scenes of God’s creation. “It is like a little slice of heaven right here in my living room” one viewer told us. As Fountainview Academy says, “Combining beautiful scenery with compelling music creates a powerful tool to portray God’s love for us.” We have to agree.
We look forward to introducing this new music channel in other communities we broadcast in as funding comes in to accomplish this.
Upon learning about the effectiveness of Good News TV here in Arizona, a group of lay leaders in Colorado decided they would like to start GNTV in Denver as well. Denver is situated on the Eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, and is the largest metropolitan area of Colorado.
God worked amazing miracles, and after several months of planning and preparation, our English GNTV channel officially started broadcasting in Denver on October 1, 2022, covering a population of 2,950,000. This channel is designed to be local for Denver just as it is in Arizona, with Colorado phone number and promotions of Denver-area church events.
The team in Denver is excited by the viewer phone calls and connections already being made, including inquiries to find a church and for bible study materials. They are anxious to start GNTV Latino to reach Spanish viewers as well, but they first need more support. Please pray that they are able to build up support for this endeavor, and please pray for Denver-metro viewers to continue finding the channel and making life-changing eternal decisions for Christ. Plans for 2023
We are impressed to do all we can to optimize our viewers’ experience and to reach more of God’s children that are not otherwise being reached. As we share just a few ways we believe God is directing us to move in 2023, we hope you’ll decide these are worthwhile reasons to support Good News TV.
After 7 Years with Two Full-time Employees, it’s Time to Hire a Third — Good News TV started in 2009 as a volunteer organization, continuing to operate with a small group of dedicated volunteers until late-2016. In 2016, thanks to grants from a generous independent organization, we were blessed to be able to hire 3 of these volunteers (2 full-time and 1 part-time). God has accomplished much over the years with a very lean staff and volunteers, adding one more part-time employee last year.
Now, with the ministry’s rapid growth and technical needs (9 TV stations), we desperately need to hire a third full-time employee in order to continue to be effective and ensure our long-term sustainability. The dedicated person we have in mind has already been volunteering many hours every week to help accomplish some of our most pressing technical projects, even though he already has a full-time career, a young family, and many church responsibilities.
We are eager to gain the full-time support of this humble servant of the Lord, who has expressed his interest in working full-time in ministry, but it will take your prayers and financial support to make this a reality.
Pursuit of Cable TV Carriage — Although we are reaching a growing segment of the population by broadcasting on over-the-air TV and various internet streaming apps, there is another segment we have wanted to reach for some time, specifically those subscribing to cable TV. We plan to investigate whether there is an opportunity for us to move in this direction. Please pray that cable carriers will look favorably on adding our channel(s) to their lineup in 2023.
Management of Another Metro-area Station — Based on the unique local design of GNTV channels in combination with our experience managing 9 TV stations, we have been asked to take over management of a TV station in a metropolitan area outside of Arizona. This will involve broadcasting our channels in this new community, similar to how we are doing in Denver. Details coming soon.
Increase Power for Three (3) Arizona Stations — We have determined that the broadcast power on 3 of our TV stations can be increased considerably, including Phoenix, Payson, and the Verde Valley. By doing so we can reach many more viewers with a much stronger signal than today. For example, in the case of Verde Valley, the increase will result in 3.4 times (340%) the power being broadcast today! This will dramatically improve the reception of our station, resulting in an eternal difference for many more of God’s children. This will require a considerable investment, so prayerfully consider supporting this.
Improved Station Monitoring — Since our TV stations are broadcasting 24 hours/day in 11 communities so far and growing, it is increasingly important to remotely monitor the broadcast of these stations real-time. By doing so, we ensure the best viewing experience for our channels in all of the communities. There is nothing commercially available to accomplish this, so we are developing our own solution instead. This will help us identify and resolve many problems in a most timely manner. This involves software development, equipment purchases, and installation.
Start Broadcasting in More Communities — There are more communities in Arizona and beyond that need to be reached with the saving message of Jesus Christ. We want to be ready for these opportunities as they continue to be presented to us.
More Lives Changed
Many more viewers are continuing to find our channels, and they later tell us that their lives have been changed! Here are just a few…
Ron, a viewer in the Apache Junction, shared that he found our channel on his TV and started watching it instead of other channels he had been watching regularly before. While he was home with a very serious illness, which included hospitalizations and major surgery, he then watched almost non-stop. As he continued watching, he told us, one piece of the Bible puzzle started coming together after another after another, until everything in the Bible finally made sense as never before!
One day, Ron heard an appeal by a pastor on GNTV to come be a part of a church family. He told us that he had been asked many times in the past about coming to church, and he always told them, “I don’t need to be part of any church, because they all pick and choose what they want to believe and follow from the Bible, ignoring everything else. This time things were different though!” He continued, “Good News TV has filled in all of the missing pieces, teaching all the Bible instead of just parts of it. So, I knew I needed to go.”
His heart was convicted, and he came with his daughter, Kristen (pictured), to the Apache Junction Church that very next Saturday morning. He was amazed to find that a close relative he had lost touch with was a member there! Soon afterward he joyfully followed the Lord in baptism. Ron and Kristen are now very involved in their church and also helping at the church school. Praise the Lord!
Hazel found our newly purchased station in Phoenix saying,“I love your shows! Please tell everyone involved in making this channel available, ‘THANK YOU!’ Please send me the free Bible Study guides that were offered on TV.”
Robert, a long-time viewer, was encouraged to watch GNTV by a friend who had started watching, became involved in a local church, leading to her baptism. As he started watching too, he turned from skeptic to dedicated believer in Christ.
In an interview of his testimony, Robert shared that Christ used Good News TV to change his life and lead him to become a baptized and active member of the church. “Good News TV has got to be one of the best ministries I can think of that is going on.”
Robert is a volunteer on our GNTV production crew. He has run cameras on local GNTV productions, such as “Origins” Creation Seminar, Christmas Concerts, “Love at Work” Musical, weekly Church Worship Services and Arizona Camp Meeting. Please see https://www.youtube.com/GoodNewsTVAZ to view these productions.
Thank you to those who have been praying for Robert. He recently lost his job due to a Sabbath conflict, and then shortly after that, God provided him a much better job, where a Sabbath conflict will no longer be an issue for him. Praise the Lord for His answers!
Please continue praying for Robert as it is desire to overcome an addiction that he has struggled with since 14 years old, which recently threatened his life. Robert shared in his testimony that he knows God will give him victory over this, just as He has given victory over other struggles in the past. Please also pray for many of our other viewers that have called the GNTV Prayer Line, with similar challenges.
Lynessa, a teenage viewer in Tucson, started watching Good News TV along with her high school friend, Adam. They both then found their way to the Tucson Midvale Park Church, where they were baptized by Pastor Simmons, and are involved in ministry for the church. We praise God for these dedicated young people!
Lynessa has looked forward to coming to Phoenix this week to attend the GYC (Generation of Youth for Christ) Conference at the Convention Center, December 28-January 1. www.gycweb.org. To watch Lynessa’s story, click on the image to the right.
Speaking of those attending GYC, also called “God’s army of youth”, 2,500 of them will be going out door-to-door in 50 buses throughout Phoenix during the afternoon of Friday, December 30. They will be delivering 80,000 copies of Great Controversy (GC) book, each of which contains a Good News TV bookmark!
The GC book is a must-read for everyone to learn the history of the Christian church, the battle between Christ and Satan, and what is to come in the future. Call us to get your own free copy of GC. Our bookmark directs recipients to watch our Christ-centered, truth-filled, English, Spanish and children’s channels 24 hours/day, and also to call us to find a church near them. Please pray for receptive hearts throughout Phoenix as they receive these materials.
